who want to give back to the community. As the Rainbow Center matures,
we hope this page will blossom with a broad listing from all of our
local glbt & a groups.

Rainbow Center Committee
New volunteers are welcome to join us in our primary
mission to build community through out the gay, lesbian, bisexual,
transgendered and allied communities. Our two primary activities
include, 1) the Virtual Community Center - guiding this new virtual
community center web-site to greater heights; and 2) hosting
community building events through out the year, culminating with an
annual volunteer recognition event.
BLACK HILLS PRIDE:

Co-Chairs:
Each year we select two Co-chairs, with one co-chair having experience.
Their duties include preparing agendas, chairing the meeting, ensuring
there are meeting minutes, tracking tasks, handling communications, and
other general coordinating activities. Co-Chairs are responsible for
picking up all critical details not managed by other committee members
Grants Review Team Co-coordinator
This volunteer works with Pride Foundation staff to facilitate the
Grants Review Team for Black Hills Pride. Once a year in the fall, our
Grant Review Team works to read, rate and ultimately awards grants. The
minimum qualification is to have some experience with BHP, or with a
very similar organization that makes grants.

Committee members are responsible for reviewing, rating and discussing
grant applications during the annual cycle in fall. Time commitment:
roughly 3 - 7 hours to read the grant applications during a two week
period, and then one grant review session scheduled for a day/evening
of 4 - 5 hours
Scholarship Review Committee Co-coordinator
This volunteer works with Pride Foundation staff to facilitate the
Scholarship Review Committee. The minimum qualification is to have some
experience with BHP, or with a very similar organization that makes
scholarship grants. The Coordinator is expected either to make direct
reports to the BHP committee or to submit reports via a committee
member. In the past, coordinators have not always been regular BHP
committee members. Time commitment: roughly 1 -3 hours per week for one
month, then approximately one interview day/evening of 4 - 6 hours and
then 1 - 2 hours of follow-up with Pride Staff.
Scholarship Review Committee member
Scholarship Review Committee members are responsible for reviewing,
rating and discussing scholarship applications during the annual cycle
in spring. Time commitment: roughly 3 - 7 hours to read the scholarship
applications during a two week period, and then approximately one
interview session scheduled for a day/evening of 4 - 5 hours. The
number of applications range from 4 - 12, and are between 6 to 12 pages
long
CAPITOL CITY PRIDE:

Co-Chairs:

Treasurer:
The treasurer is responsible for managing the finances for CCP.
Includes paying of all annual bills, i.e. State Corporation filing fee,
PO Box booth fee, etc; managing check book - keeping balances accurate,
making deposits, paying bills as approved by the committee; presenting
regular budget information showing proposed and percentage to date
budget figures for revenues and expenses; preparation of final budget
for annual report; preparation of proposed budget for next fiscal
year.
Promotions:
Recruit two or more people to coordinate the promotions for Pride Day.
This includes production of posters (more expensive, full color
graphically attractive for hanging in public places) and a hand-bill
style flyer that email & media press releases,
Fundraising:
We need several people for the following activities of business donor
solicitations, hosting several fundraisers - house parties at private
homes and events sponsored by glbt bars
Raffle prize rustling:
We need one or more people to contact local business people to request
raffle prizes to be given away during pride day. Donors include: Jamie
Lee & Ass for hair styling, local massage practitioners, the
Olympia Co-op, Mike Cook's Second Hand Store, Darby's Restaurant,
etc.
Stage manager:
Select one forceful personality to manage the stage the day of the
event. This includes working with the MC to co-ordinate the schedule of
events, checking in with Sound people as necessary, checking in with
speakers and musicians as necessary, answering questions or directing
folks to services, and generally maintaining order on stage.
Speaker coordination:
This person works with committee to develop a speakers list, generally
comprised of glbt group representatives, civil rights activists,
elected officials. Once the list is decided, contact the speakers by
phone with the rough details. Once speakers commit or organizations
agree to provide speakers, send letter that confirms their speaking
with date, time location, duration of speech, desired topic (if
applicable)
Music coordination:
Committee decides what musicians to perform. Music coordinator contacts
the musicians and negotiates a contract. Contract signed, including
terms for payment, provisions, parking etc.
Booth management:
This volunteer coordinates all the exciting booths for Pride Day. They
send out letters to all of last years participants and follow up on all
committee referrals. The range of booths includes: vendors,
non-profits, political candidates and political action groups.
Police liaison:
This volunteer is the liaison with the Olympia Police Department and
with our security group, Q Patrol. Their work involves contracting for
Q Patrol's services, correspondence with the Police Department on the
parade route, and primarily serve the liaison on Pride Day
Parade coordination:
This volunteer endeavors to make the parade a success. They recruit
floats and other parade entrants to make for a colorful parade. They
coordinate with Tacoma area Pride Day organizers to get new parade
entrants and other folks involved.
Kid Space Coordinator:
This volunteer coordinates the Kid Space and activities. They recruit
other volunteers, procure supplies (fun art stuff, snacks, etc) and
generally coordinated the Kid Space for the day.
